Nicolas Cage plays as professor Mike Lawford in this supernatural horror film Pay the Ghost (2015). One year after his young son disappeared during a Halloween carnival, Mike and his wife is haunted by eerie images and horrifying messages he can’t explain. He stops at nothing to unravel the mystery and find his son and he unearths a legend that refuses to remain buried in the past.
In my opinion, this was a pretty illogical and poorly directed movie but hey, if there’s a watch in there I’ll be checking it out. No doubt there is clear shot of Nicolas Cage checking out his watch in what seems to be a Hamilton Khaki Day Date Auto model number H70505833. In fact, the watch also played a prominent role in dealing with the demon gatekeeper.
This rugged military field watch comes in a 42mm stainless steel case with an open case back. The crystal is an anti-reflective sapphire and the case is also water resistant to 50 meters. The automatic movement is a very cool caliber H-30 which has an astounding power reserve of 80 hours. That’s great if you plan to rotate your watches during the weekend and need not worry that it’s dead when you pick it up on Monday morning. This particular model comes with a very nice looking leather brown strap. The lug width of the case is 20mm which is great as it’s probably the most common size to fit any other aftermarket straps that you like.
I like the vintage lumed arabic numerals and the slightly bigger 12, 9, 3 numbers gives it a more sporty look. The day and date is a very useful addition and is well positioned in the inner dial at 12 and 6 o’clock. Overall great looking utilitarian watch and it also comes in different dial colors and strap options. The Hamilton Khaki Day Date Auto retails for around $580. Check out the wrist shots in the movie below as well as a Youtube video of how it looks on a NATO strap.
